Whole House Renovation, Orleans, Cape Cod
For over three generations, this Cape Cod family enjoyed summering in their quaint ocean front cottage. As years passed, their family grew and the cabin became inefficient and outdated. It was time for this close-knit family to carry on the tradition of updating and preserving such a cherished family retreat.
Sushi Bar Dining Area, Worcester MA
This Master Sushi Chef renowned for his “uncompromising commitment to creativity and quality”, required an outdoor dining area for his discerning guests. The space needed to match the interior’s sophisticated atmosphere, and parallel his award winning world class dining experience.
Other challenges included the proximity to neighboring buildings, street noise, dust, and lack of available space. Through a series of zoning approvals and engineering ingenuity, the client’s dream was delivered.
The structure was framed and trimmed with a weather resistant product, “Fire Roasted Poplar”. The beautiful woodwork was further finished with a glistening coat of Australian Timber oil.
Clear structural panels were installed on the sidewalls and roof. This allowed the space to feel open on sunlit days, but allowed patrons to dine during bouts of New England rain. Sleek inline gas heaters extended the outdoor dining season by several months. Careful placement of sconces and lighting features added a cool urban hipness to the space.
Finally, a deco stone patio and a bubbling water feature pond were installed to enhance the ambiance as well as reduce the sounds of it’s Urban location.
Exterior specialty (Poolhouse), Ashland MA
This new 34’x20′ poolhouse was designed and built out of the tremendous need for an enhanced outdoor living experience. The owners liked to entertain friends and family with their existing home and pool/patio area. Over time, as the family had grown, it became clear that there was a need for a place to change clothes prior to jumping into the pool, a place to go the bathroom, and an overall place for entertaining friends and family. A pool house also provides a place to come in out of the elements when the weather turns bad!
By building this structure these needs were clearly met. The poolhouse, equipped with bathroom, full kitchen, gas fireplace and 6 person Jacuzzi, gives enhanced opportunities for the owners to enjoy almost year round enjoyment in this very relaxed setting. The kitchen location allows for the passing of food directly from the kitchen area to folks outside near the pool.
Tying into the existing sewer line, battling with ledge, and working in very tight quarters to a cliff and existing pool posed remarkable sitework challenges. In the end, the pool house is a transparent fit to the yard’s beautiful landscaping.
